We are located in an historic building in Covesville, and we specialize in antique furniture. We also have other furniture items.
We are Sarah & Rick Ovenshire. We purchased The Covesville Store in December of 2002. The store had been closed for almost 10 years so we had to do a lot of work to make it possible to re-open it. Albemarle County is known to be hard to deal with, but we found them to be cooperative, pleasant & professional. We had no idea how many “hoops” we would have to jump through. Now, we have been open for 5 years & the store has worked well for everyone involved.
Together, we have work experience in banking, law enforcement, psychological counseling, social work, & marketing. Rick has bought & sold antiques, art & jewelry for over 20 years. To date, we have sold over 1 million dollars on eBay & have shipped over 150,000 items. We also passed the million dollar mark out of our live store in 2007.
Sarah is an avid gardener who specializes in all kinds of unique & heirloom plants (especially tomatoes). Rick loves to cookout & go camping & hiking. Fortunately, Sarah also enjoys a good hike & Rick loves fresh vegetables. Honestly, as you might expect, we spend most of our waking hours growing our business. Yes, we enjoy it … & yes; sometimes it is a pain … isn’t everything that’s worthwhile?
As for our business philosophy, we believe that success comes to those who give the people what they want at a reasonable price. By selling items at reasonable/low markup, we have built a business that has provided for us. We have always tried to create a shopping experience that we would enjoy as customers.
The Covesville Store is only as strong as the people who operate it. It serves as an umbrella where complimentary businesses work together to provide a fun & rewarding shopping experience. Our goal is to have people/businesses that attract customers & sometimes these customers will find themselves enjoying & purchasing items/services that they never thought about before. If you have any good ideas, feel free to share them with us. We know what we want the store to be in general, but different people & ideas can help the store become more than any of us ever imagined.
