TIP OF THE DAY FROM ANTIQUE MALL Y'ALL How to wash decanters Do your decanters or perfume bottles look cloudy or have a white film you can't get rid of? The white film is known as "sick glass". Sometimes it is the result of deposits left on the glass and might be removable. Most often it is a permanent discoloration. Using a caustic solution may damage the glass even more. PREVENTION IS THE KEY. When washing a decanter or perfume bottle with a stopper use mild soap with warm water. Rinse well and turn over on paper towels to drain. After a few hours make a wick of paper towels that reaches the bottom of the decanter to absorb any remaining water. Make sure the wick leaves a space for air to finish drying the water. Pull the wick out and let the decanter sit on the counter for 2-3 days WITHOUT the stopper. Glass tends to hold water and condensation from temperature change. After it is fully dry you can replace the stopper safely. No more cloudy decanters. See the difference in the picture.
