Father Time Antiques is located in the heart of "Antique Row" at 2108 W. Belmont Avenue on Chicago's North side in a building that survived the great Chicago Fire. There is no one who has more restored vintage and antique wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks in the Chicagoland area.
All of our work is warranted for a full year whether you purchase a watch from us or we restore one of your cherished family heirlooms.
We are family owned and operated and can give you the kind of personal service that will allow you to select the perfect watch or clock with confidence and the knowledge that our staff will give you all the service and advice that you require.
We are members of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors #070343, the American Watchmakers Institute, World Wide Traders, the Belmont Avenue Antiques Dealer's Association, and are respected appraisers.
Father Time Antique’s restoration services are second to none. We endeavor to restore every piece that comes into our hands with the utmost care and careful consideration. We are, after all, only the caretakers of these magnificent timepieces for the next generation. We have been entrusted with some of the most treasured pieces your family may own and endeavor to be your partner in keeping those treasures running and keeping time for generations to come.
Our full time business is the acquisition, restoration, and retailing of vintage and antique timepieces. We are constantly searching for watches and clocks for our large customer base. If you have anything to sell we would like to talk to you.
Additionally if you have that one special family watch or clock that needs our special touch we would be glad to quote you a price for full restoration.
1. Antiques are, by definition, at least 100 years old. Anything else is “vintage” or a “collectible”.
2. Move the piece away from walls and other items so you can get a good look at all sides, including the bottom. Study the piece under bright light or ask to take it outside if the weather is not inclement.
3. Examine the finish for natural signs of wear. Authentic pieces will have dirt in crevices or in places that are hard to clean, and wear around knobs and on drawers caused by friction. The absence of such wear may indicate that the piece is not old, or that it has been refinished. The latter is not necessarily bad if it’s been done well, but it will lower the piece’s value in most instances.
4. Negotiate. An all-in-good-fun, see-what-you-can-do-for-me attitude gets you a lot further with dealers than a negative, attacking stance.
